THE WILDCAT FIELD HOCKEY CAMP IS A PRIVATELY RUN SPORTS CAMP, AND IS NOT OPERATED BY OR THROUGH DAVIDSON COLLEGE. THE CAMP IS NOT SPONSORED, CONTROLLED, OR SUPERVISED BY DAVIDSON COLLEGE, BUT RATHER IS UNDER THE SOLE SPONSORSHIP AND SUPERVISION OF THE CAMP DIRECTOR, GINNY SUTTON.

 


Ginny Turner, Director

  

Ginny Turner is in her fifth year as the head coach of the Davidson Wildcats and will serve as the 2012 camp director. In 2007, Turner guided the Wildcats to a 10-10 overall record and 3-3 league mark, including the program's first opening-round win in the NorPac tournament since 2000. Senior Kayli Maxwell was named the 2007 NorPac Player of the Year, while senior Jen Willis was named NorPac Defensive Player of the Year for a second straight season. Sophomore goalkeeper Christa Goeke was also named All-NorPac First Team, while junior midfielder Britti Himelfarb earned All-Second Team honors. In 2008, the season went 8-14 and the Wildcats finished the season receiving votes for the top 20 in the National Coaches Pool for the first time ever. In 2009, Senior Liz Luckey was honored as the NorPac Academic Award recipient as well as a memeber of the all tournament team. Several freshmen were honored during the season as rookie's of the week and both Jennie Mostellar and Clare Perry were names to the NorPac All Conference 2nd Team.

 2010 marked a great year for the Wildcats as Turner guided Davidson to their most overall wins since 1994 and best season ever in NorPac play finishing with a record of 14-8. The ‘Cats claimed their second NorPac East title with a 5-1 record and a prolific offensive attack, breaking the previous school single-season scoring record of 52 with 56 goals. Davidson’s success garnered national attention as the Wildcats received votes in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Top-20 Coaches Poll for four consecutive weeks during the season and again in the final week of the regular season. Sophmore Finley Amato was named the 2010 NorPac Player of the Year and was named to the all conference team along with fellow team members Steph Meador, Jennie Mostellar and Clare Perry.

In 2011 Head Coach Ginny Turner guided the Wildcats to their second straight winning season, a first for the program as a member of the NorPac, which they joined in 2000. Junior Finley Amato was honored as Davidson's first two-time winner of the NorPac East Player and Offensive Player of The Year awards after leading the division and finishing second in the conference with 14 goals and a team record nine assists for 37 points. Along with Amato's success, both Christine Rua and Steph Meador joined Amato on the NorPac All Conference Team. Amato and Rua were the first ever from Davidson to be named to the South All-Region Team.  

Turner served the Davidson program as assistant coach for two seasons prior to fulfilling the interim head role in 2007. Turner has coached for the Colonial Field Hockey Club in Williamsburg, Va., as well as the Futures Olympic Development sites at William & Mary and Davidson. She has also been an instructor at various field hockey camps around the United States. 


To cap off an impressive playing career with the Tribe, Turner was selected as a member of the NFHCA Division INorth/South Senior All-Star Team as well as the All-CAA Second Team in 2004. She helped her team to an NCAA
tournament appearance in 2002 and captained the squad as a senior. She served on William & Mary’s Student Athletic Advisory Council while helping the Tribe to top- 15 national rankings each of her four seasons on the team.
